The "Gay Gene Discovery" is the story of what happens after NIH scientists discover the gay gene as well as the amniocentesis test to detect it in unborn fetuses.  The fact that University of Illinois scientists are actually looking for the gay gene among 1000 pairs of gay brothers, as reported on "20/20" makes this novel very up-to-date and appealing. The message in the story is chilling, because the potential discovery really can threaten the existence of the gay community!

What the reviewers are saying:

Ralph Higgins, Wayves

"When Dr. Gregory Hudson and his team begin looking for the gay gene, they believe they are doing so for the best possible motives: to remove the stigma associated with homosexuality by providing the genetic cause, thus eliminating the idea that homosexuals choose their sexuality. But the uses to which his research are put turn out to be very different from what he imagined and he is forced to confront the human costs of his scientific breakthrough. Far from helping the gay community, Dr. Hudson’s research has inadvertently placed a weapon in the hands of their enemies. His good intensions have indeed paved the road to hell for queer men and women, and may even lead to their eradication from the planet.

In the Gay Gene Discovery, Linda Sones Feinberg shows the disastrous consequences that arise when we rely on science and government to deal with social ills. In these days of racial profiling, government files on the everyday lives of citizens, and with intolerance of many kinds flourishing, the future presented in The Gay Gene Discovery seems not only possible but likely. Sones Feinberg’s strength as a writer is her ability to put a human face on those directly affected by social change, and shows the price we all pay when we forget that society is not an abstract concept but is comprised of flesh and blood individuals who are more than the sum of their biological parts. This is a chilling tale of what might be, but also one told with humor, insight and wit, and containing a central core of hope."

  Bill Lee, San Francisco Rogue

"Smiles, frowns, and shudders are all to be expected while reading the futuristic The Gay Gene Discovery, where, although with the best intensions, science deals a nasty joker in the guise of advancing knowledge. Even the Vatican’s closet is invaded. And what’s more, it could happen."

Publisher Summary

GLB Publishers will release a new futuristic novel in October entitled "The Gay Gene Discovery" by Linda Sones Feinberg. The story begins in the year 2013 with scientists from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) discovering the gay gene and producing the amniocentesis test  for the gene's detection.

This is a futuristic novel, which means it might happen in the future, and it might involve all of us who are around now, in October, 2008, and it is likely that the discussions which might follow the developments outlined in the story could be very disturbing indeed, and might even be disastrous to gays and lesbians and bisexuals and transgenders... On the other hand, it might not. But let's hope we can learn something from this futuristic version of what might happen, if and when the "gay gene" is discovered and a test is developed to find it in fetuses (before birth). The discussions should start now, when it is still a potential issue.

You may obtain the book(s) from us directly or from our distributors   A  6" x 9" paperback will retail for $17.95 (ISBN: 1-934203-09-2, or 978-1-934203-09-5) or ebook $8.00.  The novel is expected to have significant weight in philosophical discussions about what it means to be gay/lesbian, and also the personal and social impacts of abortion. Even the Vatican has its own chapter in this book.

Author Summary

"The Gay Gene Discovery" is the story of what happens after NIH scientists discover the gay gene as well as the amniocentesis test to detect it in unborn fetuses.  The fact that University of Illinois scientists are actually looking for the gay gene among 1000 pairs of gay brothers, as reported on TV's "20/20" makes this novel very up-to-date and appealing. "The Gay Gene Discovery" is chilling  because the potential discovery can truly threaten the existence of the gay community. The amniocentesis test allows pregnant women to be able to detect whether or not their fetus will grow up to be gay.  At the time of the discovery in 2013, there is a female President of the U.S. whose sex-crazed assistant is named Bill which provides some comic relief to the story.  Massachusetts' gay Federal Representative Barnhard Frances  (takeoff on Barney Frank) and Talk Show host Eleanor Generous (takeoff on Ellen DeGeneres) are the heroes in the story as they are trying to save gay people and their culture. The Vatican is very upset over the projected increase in the number of abortions of gay fetuses and decides to become very pro-gay by accepting gay marriage, gay adoption and inviting gays to Church.  There are also several love stories throughout the book. The head scientist marries NIH's head of public relations and their son turns out gay despite having tested negative for the gay gene before he was born!

What happens next?  You'll have to read the story!
